Irony

That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.” Walt Whitman

What will your verse be?

It’s been way too long since I wrote, though I do have ideas that surface. Maybe you can relate. Once upon a time, I would participate in Nanowrimo, but now I’m up to my eyeballs in Medicare plans during that time since writing doesn’t exactly pay the bills. It seems everything is ‘more important’ than writing.

Irony – writing never will pay the bills if I keep kicking it to the back of the line.

As I contemplated that painful irony, I thought about how to motivate myself to get my next book done. Perhaps that will clear the log jam, and the seven books I have backed up behind it will flow out. But I love to write – I don’t need much more to motivate me. Then a little lightbulb went on in my overpacked brain.

I don’t need more motivation; I need a routine.

Laundry gets done because I have it on my mental to-do list. Bills get paid because there’s a due date associated with each one. Appointments get made and met. It’s time to put writing on my calendar rather than relegating it to the ‘free time’ I rarely have.

It’s time to contribute a verse to the powerful play. Wish me luck.
